Aloha and Mahalo for your support for our Puahi’s teams.
Puahi’s Polynesian Dance School is dedicated to promoting the Hawaiian and Tahitian culture. We work very hard to ensure our dancers understand the importance of connecting the dance to the traditions and customs that are so important to each society. We teach not just the dance, but also the language and history behind the songs. Puahi’s dancers are required to translate their mele and do research on what they are learning to grasp a clear understanding which will ultimately transform the way in which they execute the dance.
Puahi’s has taken our dancers to several Tahitian competitions in which our dancers have placed in several categories winning in solo competitions and as a group competition, Puahi’s has placed 1st in the Tahitian ‘Otea division. Our most remarkable and memorable competition is at the prestigious E Hula Mau Hula Competition in Long Beach California. In 2019, Puahi’s placed 1st in the Kahiko Kaikamahine division, 2nd place in the Kaikamahine ‘Auana division, 2nd place in the Hula Kahiko & ‘Auana division, and proudly 1st in the ‘Olelo (language) division.
Competition takes a lot of funding for costumes, fresh adornments, travel expenses, training, and hotel expenses. Because we are a not-for-profit entity, we rely solely on donations to help our dancers succeed. We are fundraising now for another E Hula Mau Hula competition in 2021. If you can help by making a donation, all of our dancers at Puahi’s would be very appreciative for your generous contribution. Thank you again for your thoughtful gift.
